Why Do You Need Juice Therapy?

Fruits and vegetablesGrowing up, my mother made many different types of fresh juices, including tomato, orange and carrot.  I didn't mind them when I was young and I still drink them to this day, though I add many other fruits and vegetables.

I wasn't really sure of the benefits of the juices until I was older, yeah I knew that oranges had a lot of vitamin C and vegetables are good for you, but I didn't realize what an affect these juices could really have.

I read a story recently about a woman that had cancer and as part of her self treatment she consumed an intensive amount of juice every day, 13 glasses, to be exact.  She did recover and the cancer is in remission, she's still with us today.  It's hard to say if the juices had any effect on her recovery, but with the mass amount of vitamins, minerals and enzymes fresh juice contains, I have no doubt it had a positive affect.  One of the combinations of juice she consumed everyday was carrot, orange and dark leafy greens.

Today, as the health benefits of juicing are becoming more well known, more and more people are juicing fruits and vegetables as part of a healthy lifestyle.  Taking care of your body is just the simplest form of care and prevention.

Most illnesses can be traced back to the lack or deficiency of vitamins, minerals and enzymes needed by the body to function properly and keep your immune system working its best. It is important to consume the necessary amount of fruits and vegetables every day, something I had a hard time doing before I discovered juicing. Raw juice therapy can be the answer.  Raw juicing is a great way to speed up healing and in the prevention of illness.

Based on information from, here are some fruit and vegetable combinations that can help, when juiced, with the following aliments.

  1. Sore Throat – grapes, apricot, lemon, pineapple, prune, carrot, tomato, and parsley.
  2. Headache - lemon, grapes, carrot, lettuce and spinach.
  3. Colds – lemon, orange, grapefruit, pineapple, carrot, onion, celery and spinach.
  4. Influenza – orange, apricot, lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, carrot, onion and spinach.
  5. Allergies – apricot, grapes, carrot, beet and spinach.
  6. Eye Disorders - apricot, tomato, carrot, celery, parsley and spinach.
  7. Constipation - apple, pear, grapes, lemon, carrot, beet, spinach and watercress.
  8. Diabetes – citrus fruits, carrot, celery, lettuce and spinach. (don't overdue the fruits and carrots)
  9. Acne – grapes, pear, plum, tomato, cucumber, carrot, potato and spinach.
  10. Asthma – apricot, lemon, pineapple, peach, carrot, radish and celery.

Drink the juice 4 or 5 times per day until the symptoms subside. Drink approximately 8 oz of juice per serving, it can be increased over time.  If you start feeling bad or noticing some other negative reaction, stop the juicing and seek medical attention.

If you want to do raw juice therapy, here are things you should consider when juicing fruits and vegetables:

• Drink the juice immediately after being juiced, or store covered in a refrigerator up to 1 hour.

• Use only fresh fruits and vegetables.

• Only extract as much juice as you can consume in one sitting.

• Oxidation occurs rapidly in fruit and vegetables after being juiced. If you store the juice too long it will lose the enzymes, minerals and vitamins and may turn an unpleasant color, for example apple juice may turn brown.  

• Add water if the juice is too sweet, especially if you are diabetic.

Why You Should Try Juicing Today

But for many of us, we simply don't have time, or maybe the desire, to eat as many vegetables as we really should. Many of us might not even like eating vegetables for a wide variety of reasons. The great thing is there is a solution that is easy and nearly effortless. It's my favorite new health habit, juicing! 

Before you make up a ton of excuses and shake your head that your are never going to try juicing, let me point out the facts why juicing is the best way to nourish your body with vegetables and fruits when you don't have the time to prepare them or you simply don't like vegetables. 

Fact one: Juicing is quick. Normally you can produce an 8 oz glass of juice in under 30 minutes. Most juicing recipes only have a few ingredients so it takes far less than 30 minutes to prepare a simple, healthy juice.

Fact two: The juices taste amazing.  Many people dislike green vegetables, but these are the vegetables that are most nutritious and are the best for your body. Juicing greens removes the "bad" flavor that is associated with eating greens, mainly because the other ingredients overpower the flavor of the green vegetables. You still get all of the nutrition but without having to eat a whole bowl of greens. 

Fact three: It's reasonably affordable. Who can put a price on health? Buying vegetables and fruits is easier then ever before.  There are many organic options and markets in your area with fresh fruit and vegetables. You might even have an option to have fresh fruit and vegetables delivered to your door.  You don't have to sacrifice your hard earned money for nutrition and can instead save both. 

Fact four: It's the perfect meal for busy people. Instead of eating a bunch of carbohydrates and sugar in the morning, you can simply make a freshly made juice and drink it on the go.  You will have more energy, think clearer and feel better.

Fact five: It's healthier than drinking coffee and pop. Imagine what would happen if you replace a cup of coffee or pop with a glass of freshly made juice. You will still get energy to "wake up" from the great vitamins and minerals without the caffeine. Plus unlike coffee or pop, there is no added refined sugar, just healthy vegetables and fruit. 

Fact six: Juicing gives you a jolt of nutrition, fast! If you want to start eating and feeling healthier, but you don't think you will have the time, it's much easier to use a juice machine than it is to prepare the amount of vegetables you should eat everyday.

Fact seven:  Get the whole family involved and don't call it a diet, call it healthy eating. Even families with children can add juicing to their diets without issues. If your children won't eat their vegetables, adding a vegetable and fruit enriched juice with their next meal will solve the issue soon enough and they're going to be begging for more.
